The Story of The Cow, The Meadow, The Milk Churn and the Rabbit

A hundred or so years ago in the town of Aspatria, Cumbria a little girl named Polly lived with her family. Polly’s father worked in the cheese hall at the local creamery and used to love to tell his little girl all about how cheese was made and how the beautiful cows that lived near them provided the natural ingredients that made the cheese so tasty.

Polly and her dad used to spend hours walking over the rolling hills looking at the wildlife and watching the Friesian cows gently graze from the land.

One day whilst on one of their many trips, Polly caught sight of a brilliant white rabbit darting in and out of the cows as they fed. Polly pointed it out to her dad and they watched and giggled as it ran rings around the gentle animals.

Polly was so enchanted by the rabbit she didn’t stop talking about it to her family for days.

One night her father returned home from work and from under his coat produced a spectacular white rabbit. Polly was so pleased she immediately named it ‘Snowy.’

Snowy and Polly were inseparable and she took the rabbit everywhere. Including one day to the local creamery to watch her dad work making the tastiest cheese in the land.

Snowy, always one for mischief, jumped on the milk churns and thumped his leg on the lids. To everyone’s amazement the noise seemed to entice the cows and they flocked over to see where the thumping was coming from. The workers of the creamery couldn’t believe their eyes.

Polly’s father was also a great artist and one afternoon drew a picture for Polly of that magical day. Not only did Polly fall in love with the sketch, the whole creamery did and that is how to this day the Lake District Cheese Co. use that same picture on the front of their wonderful product. This is the story of the logo.
